Use Produced Movies to Market (Free Subscription)

In this Advanced Marketing Newsletter, we'll cover the following: Announcement for RomCom Course, WGA Strike? Update, & Comparative Marketing - a technique that teaches screenwriters how to use produced movies to market spec screenplays.

RomCom is currently the #1 Break-In Spec Screenplay

For years, the RomCom has been purchased exclusively from A-list screenwriters, but the markets are changing. Producers consider the RomCom to be the most difficult genre to write. Because of this, the RomCom screenwriter holds a prestigious spot in the Hollywood marketplace - they're highly sought after, land the top agents, and many make coveted, million-dollar deals with Hollywood studios.

Finally, this genre is opening for the aspiring screenwriter, but the writer must understand the stringent rules of the genre. The RomCom Course covers the rules and more. The course provides a full understanding of the all the rules required to sell this genre.

The RomCom Course will be available beginning March 31, 2023 for $37, but use the code RCOM23 for the special rate of $27. Limited to the first 50 screenwriters. Look for a post tomorrow containing for full details.

WGA STRIKE? UPDATE

Let's give a round of applause to the U.S. Copyright office in Washington, D.C. The copyright office has decided that art and writings derived in part of full from A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) can NOT be copyrighted.

If studios or producers make movies or TV shows based on A.I. derived material, the movie/show can be copied and sold by anyone! Obviously, this would cost them millions of dollars in lost revenue.

Needless to say, the studios/producers have decided to open talks with the WGA regarding the use of A.I. (or no use at all). This certainly sounds like a strike will be averted, but the studios/producers know A.I. is moving out of the BETA phase and into a more substantial 'intelligence' that can create 'original' content that's not derived from existing material. This could force the copyright office to take another look at A.I. works and decide, in the future, to copyright the material.

The WGA plans a hard bargaining strategy to protect writers, and has amassed $20million in strike funds. So, it's no over yet!

The contracts between WGA and the studios/producers ends May 1, 2023. I'll keep you posted.

The April Extreme Screenwriting Special begins on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Please see the website to purchase on that date.
